Drake Is Releasing His New Era One YouTube Video at a Time

Drake Is Releasing His New Era One YouTube Video at a Time

The beat on “Quebec” starts out as an R&B song and slides into a smooth, bouncy rap cut, and Drake gives it a single verse. That is how Billboard Canada describes the new track, and at around two minutes, per iHeartRadio, it is over almost as soon as the pocket settles. It is also the most telling release of Drake’s month, because of where it lives: on YouTube, and for now nowhere else.

“Quebec” arrived on Saturday 19 September as the first new song from FOMO, Drake’s hour-long film, to get a standalone video. The film premiered on 15 September, vanished, came back two days later, and has since been broken up into a run of individual videos. At the Toronto premiere Drake also confirmed a world tour for 2027. Here is what the rollout actually contains.

What FOMO Actually Is

FOMO, short for Fear of Missing Out, is a self-funded film made with Drake’s inner circle. Rolling Stone Canada reported that he pitched it as a surreal experiment ahead of its Tuesday-night premiere, and that a teaser showed him aboard a neon-green speedboat while a narrator described two possible versions of a life, one ruled by fear and one that leads to self-discovery.

The premiere ran a few hours late, and the finished film runs for just over an hour. It blends new music, cinematic sequences and cameos with visuals for songs from Habibti and Maid of Honour, two of the three albums Drake released in May. Then it disappeared. The YouTube upload was made private after the premiere, and Billboard reported that it returned to his channel on Thursday 17 September.

In his caption, Drake framed the film as a story about making the most of one summer, and pushed back on the idea that rap is fading and that music videos no longer matter. He wrote that he still cares as much as he did on the set of “Best I Ever Had”, and asked viewers to be kind and rewind.

Nine New Moments and Three Big Collaborations

For rap fans the draw is the unreleased music. Rolling Stone Canada counted nine new tracks or previously unheard musical moments in the film, including collaborations with Don Toliver, Yeat and PartyNextDoor.

The Don Toliver material was particularly anticipated, after Drake made a surprise appearance at Toliver’s Toronto concert in August. Their song “Cold Shoulder” gets a substantial showcase in FOMO, according to Rolling Stone Canada, and the pair also previewed a flip of Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas”, which Billboard notes spent 22 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100. Billboard Canada describes that one as an R&B remix.

The Yeat collaboration reached streaming first, and not under Drake’s name. “Miss My Dawg” came out on Friday 18 September on Yeat’s new EP, Cocoon, as HotNewHipHop and Billboard Canada both note, which made a Yeat project the first place to hear an official FOMO song outside the film.

Quebec and the One-Verse Single

Back to “Quebec”. HotNewHipHop calls it one of the more chilled-out, atmospheric and well-flowing of the new tracks, and the video goes for a home-movie look. Billboard Canada describes camcorder-quality footage of Drake showing off his Billboard Music Awards trophies, his watches and his chains, the same possessions he lists in the verse.

The title is a nod to the French Canadian province, and not his first. Billboard Canada points back to a viral Quebec line on “Sticky” in 2022, and notes that the new video puts Drake in front of a projection of the Jacques-Cartier Bridge and the Montreal skyline. Montreal is where he played his first headline show, at Time Supper Club in 2008.

There is a chart detail hidden in it too. The video includes a brief shot of balloons celebrating Iceman going double platinum, four months after that album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart, where it spent five non-consecutive weeks at the top.

Why the Rollout Runs Through YouTube

On Saturday 19 September Drake did not just post “Quebec”. He also uploaded standalone videos for other FOMO segments, including “I’m Spent” with Loe Shimmy, “Outside Tweaking” with Stunna Sandy, “True Bestie” with Iconic Savvy, “Cheetah Print” with Sexyy Red, “Princess”, “White Bone”, “Hoe Phase”, “New Bestie”, “Road Trips” and an extended cut of “Classic”, as HotNewHipHop lists them. Billboard Canada adds that the videos for his Maid of Honour and Habibti tracks are now all up separately.

As of Billboard Canada’s report on 21 September, “Quebec” had not reached streaming services, and the other new songs from the film, including both Don Toliver collaborations, were still unreleased as singles. For now, YouTube is where this era is unfolding. It fits the caption: Drake built the rollout around the idea that people still watch rap videos, and he is testing it in public.

It also keeps the conversation going for longer. Each standalone upload gives fans a new clip to share, while the full film remains the one place where the songs sit together. Billboard Canada reports that fans are now waiting to see which of the other FOMO tracks get the single treatment next.

The Cameos and the Callbacks

FOMO leans hard on familiar faces. Rolling Stone Canada lists appearances from Sexyy Red, NBA star Kevin Durant, model Winnie Harlow, Stunna Sandy and Drake’s mother, Sandra Graham. Drake heads to the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto in an Iron Man suit, wears a Brat shirt, and revisits locations and imagery from some of his biggest videos, including “God’s Plan”, “Hotline Bling”, “Started From the Bottom”, “Headlines” and “Toosie Slide”.

There are sharper moments as well. Rolling Stone Canada notes that Drake appears to show off the Tupac Shakur crown ring he bought at auction in 2023 for $1 million, and that one unreleased track includes a line that appears to reference Kendrick Lamar. For listeners who follow the bars as closely as the visuals, that is the line to listen for.

A Year Built on Three Albums in May

FOMO lands roughly four months after Drake’s May album run, in what Rolling Stone Canada calls one of his busiest years in recent memory. In May he released Iceman, Habibti and Maid of Honour, and Billboard reports the trio made him the first artist to hold the top three slots of the Billboard 200 at the same time.

That context matters for reading the film. It is not an album. Much of it works as a visual companion to the May records, with Habibti and Maid of Honour at its centre, and the rest previews what comes next: the Toliver songs, the Yeat track, and “Quebec”.

The 2027 World Tour and What We Know So Far

The biggest news came off camera. Speaking to CTV’s etalk around the premiere, Drake said a tour is coming, along with other things on the horizon, including some big shows, and that he would be out in 2027 to see everybody again across the world, as Complex reported. Rolling Stone Canada adds that it will be his first North American tour since 2023, and that no dates or venues have been announced yet.

His last North American run was the It’s All a Blur Tour, from July 2023 to April 2024, with J. Cole and 21 Savage as guests. Since then he played Australia on the Anita Max Win Tour in February 2025 and co-headlined Some Special Shows 4 U with PartyNextDoor across Europe from July to September 2025, according to Complex.

Drake is not the only veteran putting out big projects without a traditional rollout this season. Our piece on how The Documentary III puts The Game on Drake’s side of the line looked at a 24-track album that arrived overnight. Drake has gone the other way, stretching one film into a string of releases, and the tour announcement suggests the stretch is not finished.
